[Victoria] Royal Letters Patent. Letters patent to Alfred Leighton, of 9, Buckingham Street, Strand, in the County of Middlesex, for the invention of "Improvements in Printing, and in Apparatus Employed Therein." Sealed the 29th June 1866 and dated the 9th January 1866. The vellum document consists of two sheets, one 30 x 20 in. and the one 24½ x 17½ in., both with beautiful decorative borders joined by plaited burgundy yarn to a huge yellow Victorian seal, 6¼ in. in diameter encased in its own metal container. Document and seal are housed in a leather-covered wooden box with "Her Majesty's Patent" surrounding the British Royal Coat of Arms; about half of the leather cover is missing. Accompanied by a description of the printing improvements. Estimated Value $500 - 600
