1873. Open 3. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. Mostly red. A popular date. Prior to 1861, the U.S. had a bimetallic system where both gold and silver were money. In 1873, Congress decided to demonetize silver, and from the time that hard money was resumed (1879) to 1933, America was on the gold standard. The Indian Cent continued in its final French bronze alloy, which at the time was a blend of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. S-7. MPD on Neck. (PCGS # 2108) Estimated Value $400 - 450
