1861. PCGS graded AU-58+ CAC Approved. Well struck and lighytly toned, this lustrous No Motto date is one most often encountered in the $5 series. The reason traces back to the beginning of the American Civil War. With hostilities in April 1861, depositors made last minute requests for converting bullion and foreign coin deposits into coin of the realm. Mintage quickly fell off by 1863-65 in virtually all gold denominations struck in Philadelphia (PCGS # 8288) Estimated Value $700 - 750
