Lot 123

1794 S-17a R5- Head of 1793 AG3. A couple points sharper but burnished and retoned glossy chocolate brown and steel with darker olive brown toning in protected areas on the reverse. No corrosion, verdigris or notable marks. The date is weak but readable and the legends are nearly complete in spite of being weakened by wear and burnishing. The planchet is not perfectly round with a diameter that varies from 29 to 30mm, which is not unusual for this variety. The edge lettering is strong but incomplete, probably due to the planchet being out of round when it passed through the Castaing machine. Estimated Value $600-UP

Unsold
