Babylonian Haematite Cylinder Seal, c. 1750 B.C., Approximately three-quarters of an inch, 21mm. Showing a bearded god seated on a dais, wearing a long, fringed robe and brimmed headdress and holding up a cup. Facing him stands a bare-headed worshipper wearing a horned headdress and flounced robe; both hands are raised. Between them is a diminutive priest holding a bucket and one hand raised with palm downwards. Above is a group of three dots and a solar disc and crescent. A rare and unusual secondary scene depicts two facing Lamma goddesses above with both hands raised in supplication; below is a dog, the symbol of the goddess Gula. Pictured with a roll-out of the seal.
