Hartung, Hans. Fond Mauve. Etching, 20¼ x 14¾ in., handsigned in pencil at lower right and numbered in pencil 48/75 at lower left. Framed to 20½ x 27¼ in. Hartung (1904-1989) was a German-born abstract artist who studied in Dresden and Munich before moving to Paris, where he had his first solo exhibition in 1947. He won the International Grand Prix for painting at the Venice Biennial in 1960. The owner purchased this piece approximately 50 years ago from the Esther Robles Gallery in Los Angeles, which was in operation from 1947-1979.
