Napoleon (1769-1821) French military and political leader; Emperor of France (1804-1815). Document signed ("Napln") as King of Italy, "Given in our palace of the Tuileries, 12 Feb. 1810." Decreeing that "Whenever the Viceroy is not able to preside over our Council of State one of the Senators from the Council of State is authorized to act in his stead." The Viceroy of Italy was Napoleon's adopted son, Eugène de Beauharnais.
