Lot 224

1794 S-58 R3 VF30. Five points sharper with faint hints of microscopic roughness hidden under the glossy chocolate brown patina. Traces of lighter brown toning peek through in some of the protected areas on both sides. This cent offers excellent eye appeal. No verdigris, and the only marks are a shallow rim nick at the E in UNITED and another above the second T in STATES. M-LDS, Breen state III late. The die crack through UNIT is strong and the section outside the crack is tilted and shifted outward as a retained cud. A nice example of a very rare die state. Called VF35 net VF25 in the Noyes census, his photo #28248 (which is out of focus and therefore does not do justice to this cent). Called VF30 in the Bland/Breen census.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.
Ex Robert J. Kissner, Stack's 6/27/1975:256-Jack Stone 11/1975.

Realized $6,325
