Lot 161

1807 C-1 R1 G6. Double Struck over Off-Center Obverse Brockage. A couple points sharper on the obverse, even better on the reverse, but burnished and retoned glossy dark olive and chocolate. The portrait is covered with myriad fine scratches and the bottom of the reverse shows a patch of extremely fine roughness. Not an especially attractive half cent, but it has significant redeeming qualities. It was double struck. The first impression was an off-center obverse brockage and the second was normal. The off-center profile of Ms Liberty is clearly visible in the field above and to the right of the centered second profile, and an incuse impression of what appears to be part of the back of her head shows at ICA on the reverse. In addition, a strong shelf-like die crack slants across the face. This "crack" makes no sense since the die state appears to be MDS rather than LDS. Worth a good look.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
