Lot 153

1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4 without Stems VG8. Double Struck, Obverse Brockage Maker. Glossy chocolate brown and steel, the devices a slightly lighter shade than the protected areas. Smooth and very attractive for the grade, just worn. LDS, Manley state 3.0. Double struck. The reverse displays two clearly defined strikes with a 10-degree CCW rotation between the impressions. The doubling is obvious to the unaided eye. The obverse, however, shows only a single strike, which indicates the second strike on that side was against a new blank planchet, thereby creating an obverse brockage (incuse) impression on that planchet. A neat mint error.
Estimated Value $250-UP.

Realized $230
