Lot 151

1804 C-11 R2 Plain 4 with Stems G6. Double Struck Obverse, Possible Reverse Brockage Maker. Slightly sharper but there are some nicks on both sides, strongest in the wreath under NITED, plus a hairline scratch through UN and the fraction. No roughness or verdigris. Glossy medium steel brown and chocolate. LDS, Manley state 3.0, with the central reverse heavily swollen obliterating HALF CENT. The obverse was double struck with an offset of about a half millimeter between impressions. Clear doubling shows on nearly everything on that side, but there is no trace of doubling on the reverse. This suggests the reverse may have been pressed into a new blank planchet during the second strike, thereby creating a reverse brockage. The reverse is rotated 20 degrees CW.
Estimated Value $150-UP.

Realized $127
