Lot 143

1797 C-2 R3 Double Struck. PCGS graded VG-10. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown and chocolate toning on the devices. No notable defects. This piece was struck at least two times. One strike was about 20% off center to the bottom (K-6 position) and the dominant strike was centered on the planchet but rotated counterclockwise relative to the off-center impression. Clear evidence of the off-center strike shows on both sides, including the cap left of the eye, the neck on the bust tip, a bust tip right of the date, and a stray N under NI in UNITED. The stray cap on the head left of the eye suggests more than two strikes were involved. A near mint error. The PCGS label mentions the "Dbl Stk" feature of this piece. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
