Lot 142

1795 C-6a R2 G5. Struck over a cut-down 1794 Talbot Allum & Lee Cent with New York. Traces of the TAL Cent undertype are visible on the obverse, including the RK of YORK at the 17 of the date. Slightly sharper but the reverse is covered with microscopic specks of greenish crud, perhaps transferred to the coin from an old album. Otherwise the only defects are a few trivial contact marks and traces of minor roughness in the field before the neck. Mostly glossy chocolate brown with specks of darker chocolate and olive brown on the obverse. The date is weak but easily readable and the legends are clear. Weight 87.3 grains.
Estimated Value $200-UP.

Realized $334
