1864. Copper-Nickel. PCGS graded MS-63. Mostly untoned. 1864 was a transition year when the government switched the minor coinage from copper-nickel at a 72-grain weight standard to bronze weighing 48 grains. The bronze alloy would remain current until 1982 when copper-plated zinc replaced it (a cheaper alloy) due to Federal Reserve-caused monetary debasement of the dollar (PCGS # 2070) .
Estimated Value $225 - 250.

Realized $311
