Lot 529

1802 S-241 R1 Stemless Wreath, Doubled Fraction Bar G4. Glossy chocolate and olive brown. Smooth and quite nice for the grade. The only mark is a tiny punch on the E in LIBERTY. The date is strong and the Stemless Wreath feature is clear. This is a decent but unimpressive cent except for the die state, which appears to be unique. A depressed retained cud shows above the F in OF, which places the die state between Breen's states III and IV. To the best of our knowledge this is the only example known. A very important piece for the serious collector of die states.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Discovered by Henry T. Hettger.
