Lot 490

1793 S-6 R3 Wreath Cent. PCGS graded AU-50. Vine & Bars Edge. The so-called "Sprung Die" variety. Frosty medium brown and tan with darker steel brown and chocolate toning on the highpoints. No corrosion or verdigris, essentially free of contact marks. The only defects are some very fine planchet striations on the left side of the obverse (as struck). These microscopic planchet fissures are slanted from NW to SE, and only one visible without the aid of a glass is in the field behind the head. M-LDS, Breen state V. The usual wave in the field behind the head (genesis of the "Sprung Die" label) is strong and a fine but clear horizontal die crack extends from the lower lip into the field. A very attractive Wreath Cent. Our grade is VF35.
Estimated Value $14,000-UP.

Realized $20,700
