Lot 488

1793 S-4 R3 Chain AMERICA with periods. PCGS graded VF-30. Clipped Planchet. Sharpness EF40 but covered with uniform extremely fine granularity. No verdigris, and the only mark is a light rim bruise just left of the date. Very dark steel. The surfaces are dull but they appear to have never been brushed, so the potential for more lively surfaces may be there. Nicely struck EDS, Breen state I. The die cracks under the lowest curls have not formed. A narrow, slightly beveled planchet clip is visible behind the head, and the clip is slightly less obvious at the opposing area above ER in AMERICA. The periods following LIBERTY and the date are clear. Our grade is EF40 sharpness net VF25 for the imperfect surfaces. The "PERIODS" feature is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $20,000-UP.

Realized $31,050
