Lot 388

1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-26 Rarity-5 NGC graded XF details scratched. Glossy medium to dark steel gray. The surfaces are smooth but both sides show numerous fine, very old scratches, strongest on the obverse. Struck with the obverse (Pine Tree side) slightly off center to K-4.5 while the reverse is off a bit more to K-7.5. However, the date is bold and the legends are complete except for the O in DO at the bottom of the reverse. This example is the latest state seen with a strong die crack extending from the right side of the 2 in the date through the D in ENGLAND to the border beyond. Clearly later than either of the examples in the Hain or Ford collections. Weight listed as 71.1 grains on the NGC label, #2573475.008.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Realized $2,645
