Lot 386

1652 Massachusetts Oak Tree Shilling Noe-1 Rarity-3 PCGS Genuine. This piece is nicely centered and has the details of EF40 or better, but the planchet is defective. There is a fissure and planchet crack at K-9 that extends to the oak tree, a less obvious planchet fissure on the reverse from the rim at K-4 to the base of the XII denomination where it fades away, and a curved chunk of the planchet is missing at the top of the obverse. The surfaces are a bit uneven and there are many tiny pinpricks on both sides. Frosty medium steel gray. Certainly not perfect, but the details are very nice for an Oak Tree Shilling. Weight listed as 70.52 grains on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Realized $6,440
