Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. AR Denarius likely minted at Samos, c. 21-20 BC. Bare head right of Augustus. Reverse: Bull standing right. RIC 475; BMC 662; C. 28. Recently cleaned, but not abrasively so. Struck from fresh dies; bold and unusually high relief . Cleaned. Extremely Fine.

Augustus was in Samos during the winter of 21-20 BC, during which time he needed to mint Roman coin types for provincial propaganda, as well as to pay the Roman soldiers stationed there.
