Lot 93

1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-13 Rarity-6 Fair-2. Glossy light steel gray. No roughness or marks, just heavily worn. Most of the Pine Tree remains visible while everything else on the obverse is gone. On the reverse the 652 is weak but easily readable and the II in XII can be made out. Nothing else remains. Excessive wear and apparent heavy clipping are typical for this very rare variety. The weight of this piece is 41.7 grains, which is quite low for a shilling of the day, but it is consistent with the weight of the finer Noe-13 example offered in the Ford collection (39.2 grains, Stack's 10/18/05:105).
Estimated Value $600-UP.

Realized $1,495
