Lot 41

1835 N-8 R1 Head of 1836 MS62. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with 15% of the bright original mint red remaining, mostly on the right side of the obverse. No contact marks, but there are traces of an old fingerprint on the right side of the obverse where the mint red dominates. In addition there is a very shallow planchet flake or void at the dentils under star 12 and a spot of reddish brown toning at the dentils above star 5. Otherwise this piece is quite nice, and if the mint red color turned to steel brown thus blending away the fingerprints I suspect this piece would qualify for choice. M-LDS. The bisecting die crack up through the 1 in the date extends through the portrait and emerges weakly into the field below star 8. Now housed in a PCGS MS65 RB holder. (PCGS # 37061).
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
