Lot 38

1834 N-2 R1 Small 8, Large Stars, Medium Letters MS62. Lustrous medium brown and chocolate with faint peeps of faded mint color on the obverse and 5% of the mellowed red remaining on the reverse. There is a subtle swipe of darker toning at TATES and a very light scuff in the field between stars 11 & 12. Otherwise this cent is choice. M-LDS. The small spikes up from the dentils under the date present in earlier die states are now gone. In addition, die chatter created sharp triple profiles on the tip of the nose and the lips. Less obvious doubling shows along the profile of the nose while sharper doubling is visible on RTY. Called MS60 by Noyes, his photo #56024. Comes with a nice provenance. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65BN (NGC label included). Now housed in a PCGS MS65 BN holder. (PCGS # 37054).
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
