Lot 3376

L. Vinicius, moneyer. AR Denarius minted at Rome, 52 BC. Laureate head right of Concordia. Reverse: Victory flying right, holding palm branch decorated with four wreathes. Sear 402; Vinicia 1a; Cr. 436/1; Syd. 930. Iridescent toning. Choice Very Fine and very rare.

The head of Concordia is perhaps an expression of hope for continued harmony between Caesar, Pompey Magnus, and Crassus. The reverse type probably alludes to the many honors, several of them unusual, granted Pompey to that point in his unconventional but illustrious career.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.
The Pat Coyle Collection.
