Harpo Marx. Peasants. Oil on board, 23½ x 17½ in., signed "Harpo '62" at lower right. While one woman grinds maize by hand, a woman with a long black pigtail, wearing a red skirt, squats with her back to the front, facing a dilapidated building surrounded by long grasses. Harpo Marx (1888-1964) was one of the famous Marx Brothers, best known for his red wig, playing the harp, and never speaking during performances. He also loved to paint.
