Moshe Kupferman. Untitled. Watercolor, 19¼ x 27 in. Signed in Hebrew and dated 72 at lower right. Matted and framed to 21½ x 29¾. Kupferman (1926-2003) was born in Poland. He spent World War II in internment camps and his powerful abstract paintings are influenced by his experience as the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust. In 1948 he emigrated to Israel and helped establish Kibbutz Lohamei Hagetaot (Ghetto Fighters' Kibbutz). His paintings hang in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Haifa Museum and the Tel Aviv Art Museum in Israel, the Harvard Art Museums, and other museums around the world.
