Lot 390

1817 N-14 R1 MS62+. Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown and chocolate on the devices. About a third of the mint color remains. This cent is choice except for a dull diagonal nick on the chin and another near the truncation above the 7. MDS with the usual weak strike on the upper half of the hair buns and on the leaves under IC in AMERICA. A very attractive cent, close to MS63. Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents. Called MS61 and tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census, his photo #56708. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS64RB (NGC label included, #446667-001, and it shows the attribution and Rasmussen provenance).
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Robert D. Rector via Bob Grellman 11/26/1990-Wes Rasmussen, Heritage 1/13/2005:3395.

Realized $1,438
