Lot 376

1817 N-8 R2 AU58. Lustrous chocolate and steel brown with frosty lighter steel brown and tan faded down from mint color in protected areas. Great eye appeal. Looks mint state but a glass reveals a touch of rub on the highest points of the designs. The best identifying marks, and they are barely visible, are a tiny rim nick over the E in UNITED and another right of the second S in STATES. Nicely struck E-MDS. All the stars have full radial lines and the fields are just starting to show flowlines. The shallow low spot that forms under star 5 is just starting to show and there is no trace of the "Mouse" break on top of the head. Called AU55 net AU50 in the Noyes census, his photo #28020. Removed from an ANACS slab graded MS62 Brown (ANACS label included, #RD6065).
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Tony Terranova 4/1988 (at the EAC Convention)-Herman Halpern, Stack's 3/16/1988:320-Tony Terranova-Jeff Gresser-Chris McCawley 12/1992.
