1838-C. NGC AU Details, improperly cleaned. A touch of tone restes within the protected areas. Only 7,880 minted of which merely 150 examples are estimated to have survived. This is the first year that Charlotte, North Carolina struck gold pieces. The mint would continue with gold exclusively until it closed in 1861 (PCGS # 7697) .
