Lot 1

1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet with Reversed N's, Noe-10 Rarity-3, NGC graded VF35. Glossy light silvery gray and steel with slightly darker steel gray toning in the protected areas. The surfaces are very smooth, perhaps from a light cleaning, and this piece offers excellent eye appeal for the grade. A couple letters of the legend are tight to the edge of the planchet but everything is clearly legible. The date and denomination are bold. This die variety is known for the backward first "N" in ENGLAND and the one in IN, and both of these die cutter errors are bold on this example. Weight listed as 67.3 grains on the slab label, which also shows the reversed "N" feature but not the Noe die variety.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.

Realized $3,795
