Lot 568

1804 S-266a R4+ PCGS graded "Genuine". Sharpness VG10 but there are numerous small nicks plus several very old scratches scattered over both sides. The scratches most have occurred well before the coin was removed from circulation because they show mostly in the fields and protected areas and fade or disappear completely when crossing over the devices. Very glossy chocolate brown, possibly retoned but the color is attractive and natural-looking. The date and legends are complete and strong. Certainly not perfect but this piece offers eye appeal far better than the technical description implies. E-MDS, Breen state II. Some die clashmarks show before the neck and a faint die crack connects the tops of MERI, but there are no cud breaks. Our grade is VG10 sharpness net VG7.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
