Lot 479

1794 C-3a R5 G4+. Small Edge Letters. A couple points sharper, especially on the reverse, but there are a half dozen pitmarks on the obverse, the largest of these being a couple in the field before the neck. In addition there are numerous thin rim nicks around the obverse and a deep nick at the leaf left of the H in HALF. Rounding out the defects is a mint-made thin planchet lamination from the rim just above the cap through LIBE. Otherwise the planchet is smooth and the color is an attractive glossy light chocolate and steel brown with darker chocolate toning in protected areas. The date is easily readable although the 1 is weak, and the legends are strong. An imperfect but acceptable example of this very tough die variety. EDS, Manley state 1.0, prior to the delicate bulge that forms right of the date. Weight 100.2 grains.
Estimated Value $350-UP.
Ex Dr. Wallace Lee.
