Parthian Kingdom. Vologases V, AD 191-208. (3.6g), 191. AR Drachm (3.60 g). Ekbatana mint. Diad. facing bust of the king with pointed beard; hair in bunches above diadem and at sides. Reverse: Degraded legend in Parthian script; Archer (Arsakes I) seated r. on throne, holding bow; monogram below. Sellwood 86.3; Shore 448. Attractively toned. Superb Extremely Fine.

Little is known of Vologases' later years, but early in his reign he had to deal with large Roman invasions. One was with the support of Pescennius Niger against Septimius Severus which he lost, then a second time against Septimium Severus as he tried to expand into areas of Mesopotamia occupied by Rome.
