Kingdom of Parthia. Mithradates II, c. 123-88 BC. AR Tetradrachm (15.83 g) minted at Seleucia on the Tigris. Diademed bust left of Mithradates II. Reverse: Archer seated right on omphalos; in left field, monogram. Sellwood 24/5. NGC graded EF; Strike 4/5; Surface 4/5.

Parthia created these Hellenistic masterworks of portraiture during a time of military expansion and economic riches. A moderately large hoard of these tetradrachms was unearthed 15-20 years ago; at present they have all been dispersed and have more or less disappeared from the current market.
