Sikyonia, Sikyon. 335-330 BC. AR Stater (12.2 g). Chimaera standing left; wreath above, sigma and epsilon below. Reverse: Dove flying left; I before; all within wreath. BCD Peloponnesos 219; BMC 56. Excellent metal, well centered with lovely delicate iridescent toning. A beautifully perserved specimen. Superb Extremely Fine.

The Chimaera, according to the myth related by Homer, was a fire-breathing beast composed of the body of a lioness with a tail that terminated in a snak'e head and the head of a fire-breathing goat that arose from its back.
