Calabria, Taras, c. 280-272 BC. AR Didrachm (or Nomos; 6.54 g). The Dioskouroi riding left. Reverse: Taras riding left on dolphin; above, Nike right crowns Taras; Taras holds shield decorated with hippocamp and two spears; below, line of waves. Vlasto 775 (these dies); SNG ANS 1124; Sammlung Ludwig 101. Possibly overstruck on an earlier coin which can be discerned at center of reverse. Beautifully centered and boldly struck. Extremely Fine.
