Lot 1903

1859 Type 2. NGC graded MS-64 CAC Approved. A frosty untoned specimen. This is a lovely, healthy-glowing specimen that comes close to the Gem class, one whose full-color obverse and reverse being essentially untoned, beams with frosty luster. Regarding this date, the clearest details are found throughout the peripheral areas and also encompassing the key centers which are crystal clear as noted in hair curls and eagle’s plumage and shield. Pop 2; 1 finer in 67.

Die characteristics: A modified reverse design with smaller letters and arrows was introduced on Philadelphia isues from 1859 through 1907. (A few Philadelphia Mint pieces were made in 1859, 1860, and 1861 with the old Type 1 Large Letterse reverse design.).
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Realized $6,325
