1862, $5 United States Note. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65EPQ. Fr-61a. . KL-190. This Legal $5 possesses remarkable face margins that are totally out of line for what are normally seen on this type. They are broad all the way around, and fully frame the design in a way that is seldom seen on this often tightly margined design. The grade appears to have been somewhat "netted" due to some very minor corner and edge handling, which might be regarded as trivial by many experts on this early type, as the margins and centering alone would fully support a slightly higher grade. It is fully original, with bold embossing evident through the holder, and the colors are as sharp and bold as the day it was printed. An exemplary note worthy of attention from any type note collector.
