Lot 9

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 11-X Rarity-4. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Very attractive glossy chocolate brown with underlying frosty luster in the fields and protected areas. There is a faint swipe of very shallow reddish verdigris through the 178 with a couple tiny splashes of similar reddish material on the rings on the right side of the reverse. Otherwise this piece is quite nice, nearly choice. Sharply struck showing bold die clashmarks on the obverse. Most likely from the famous Bank of New York Hoard of mint state Fugio Cents that was discovered in 1856 and dispersed over the next century.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Wayte Raymond 5/43-John J. Ford, Jr., Stack's 3/20/2007:102.

Realized $2,530
