Lot 745

1875-S. NGC graded MS-65. Froslty and white. An unusually bright and lustrous example of this San Francisco Mint twenty-cent piece, the breast feathers well defined and the details to the talons fully pronounced except on the right side. Some minor weakness occurs at the left wing, which is often the case. The leg feathers are full-featured, as is Liberty with her shield. The satin surfaces ripple with original luster. The coin is untoned, silvery, and sits on the high pedestal of Gem specimens that have survived the vicissitudes of time and the elements. The only contact marks appear on the left arm and chest area of Liberty; five stars are flat, the others ranging from full to very sharp. This date is readily available in grades through MS60-63, but the opportunity for higher graded specimens quickly diminishes.
Estimated Value $3,800 - 4,000.
