Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 63

Lot 1632

1907. No periods. PCGS graded MS-64. Quite choice and exhibits lovely mint bloom colors. Mint Engraver Charles Barber modified the Saint-Gaudens design, providing much shallower relief to improve consistency and he modified the main elements. These modifications were intended to facilitate production speed on the Mint's electric presses and for ease of use in commerce, although some have suggested they were directly in response to Barber's envy of Saint-Gaudens. The motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, was not included, after objections to the use of the Deity's name were made to the Mint by President Theodore Roosevelt (PCGS # 8852) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,400.

Realized $4,600
