Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 63

Lot 1330

1840-O. ICG graded AU-55. Plenty of luster remains, untoned. Usual slight weakness on the high points of Liberty and eagle. New Orleans Mint, like its sister mints at Charlotte and Dahlonega, opened for business in 1838. By 1840, having had the latest equipment installed, it was striking silver and gold coins in abundance. Peak production, however, wouldn't be reached until the late 1840s into the early 1850s. Only 33,580 minted.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,400.

Realized $1,783
