Lot 797

1796 S-98 R4 Draped Bust F12. Several points sharper with many of the details offering the sharpness of VF20, but this cent was chemically cleaned and has retoned a uniform dark steel and olive. The surfaces are rather glossy and offer nice eye appeal in spite of the old cleaning. No corrosion or verdigris, only minor contact marks. The notable ones are a very light scuff at the tops of RT in LIBERTY and a faint vertical scrape between the 7 & 9 in the date plus a small planchet chip at the rim left of the lower curls. MDS, Breen state II. The date and legends are complete and clear except for strike weakness at the T in CENT. Called F15 net F12 and tied for CC#12 in the Noyes census, his photo #61134.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex David Johnson.
