Lot 721

1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4 without Stems VG8. Double Struck Obverse Brockage Maker. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with darker chocolate and olive brown toning in the protected areas. No roughness or notable marks, just normal wear. LDS, Manley state 3.0. Double struck with both impressions centered on the planchet. The reverse was struck two times by the, and those impressions were rotated about 10 degrees between the strikes. The doubling is obvious in the wreath, and "HALF" is not parallel with "CENT" creating a very curious look indeed. The obverse, however, shows no evidence of doubling. Instead, it was pressed into a new blank planchet during the second strike creating an obverse brockage on that planchet.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
