Lot 715

1803 C-4 R4 VG10. Double or Triple Struck. Five points sharper but there are a few too many light contact marks for the higher grade. The notable marks are a pair of hairline scratches down the portrait and a light rim bruise under the 3 in the date. Glossy olive and steel with lighter chocolate toning in protected areas on the reverse. MDS with the reverse rotated 10 degrees CW relative to a normal head-to-foot die orientation. This piece was struck at least two times. The dominant strike is normal and centered on the planchet. Another impression about 10% off center left portions of the 803 and bust tip on the rim above BERTY. In addition there is an arc impressed by a blank planchet positioned about 45% off center on the lower half of the reverse, and this strike most likely left an off center reverse brockage on that planchet. Another intriguing multiple mint error in this sale.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
