Lot 696

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 13-X Rarity-2. NGC graded MS-62 Brown. A "STATES UNITED" variety. Dark steel brown and chocolate with satiny mint frost peeking through in protected areas, mostly on the obverse. No wear or contact marks, but the surfaces are a bit dull from a thin layer of natural oxidation. The planchet is covered with numerous very tiny planchet flakes or chips, which is quite common on these early colonial coppers. The largest of these chips is on the top of the O in YOUR, but even this one is not distracting. A very small planchet clip shows at K-1 on the reverse. Nicely centered with the date and legends all clear. Later die state with strong clashmarks on the obverse and several thin die cracks on the reverse. Most likely from the Bank of New York Hoard of mint state Fugio Cents that was dispersed long ago. NGC population 36; 69 finer.
Estimated Value $700-UP.

Realized $2,128
