The story of how these cancelled notes survived, being tossed out of a Treasury warehouse during a fire in 1935 and picked up by passersby, is well known in collector circles. Most survivors are apt to show various degrees of damage or staining, and unaffected notes are seldom seen. This beautiful near-Gem is as nice as we've ever seen, with bright paper, bold inks, and no problems whatsoever. Expect spirited bidding for this note, as a more attractive example of this high denomination note might not be found.
