Lot 802

1796 S-96 R6 Draped Bust Fair-2. Very slightly sharper but lightly corroded and smoothed to minimize the roughness. The devices are smooth while fine roughness remains in the protected areas, strongest in the field above the bust. No marks or verdigris. Rather glossy chocolate brown with darker olive brown and steel toning in the protected areas. The date is weak but all 4 digits can be made out and the legends are readable with some effort. EDS, Breen state I, before the bisecting die crack across the reverse. Certainly a low grade piece, but this variety is seldom available. Called Fair-2 by Noyes, his photo #59831.
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.
Ex Henry T. Hettger, 2006 EAC Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 5/6/2006:119.
