Lot 682

1804 C-3/5 R7 Without Spiked Chin G6. Several points sharper but lightly corroded. No verdigris, but there are some light hairline scratches on the portrait and fraction, a couple dull lines of planchet erosion through the T in UNITED into the wreath, and a small rim bruise over the second T in STATES. Slightly glossy dark olive and steel with lighter steel brown toning covering the devices. The two-tone appearance accents the details and help the eye appeal. Not the most attractive half cent in this offering, but certainly one of the rarest in terms of the die state. The C-3 die variety is actually the C-5 variety in an early die state, prior to the "Spiked Chin" feature. Fortunately the portrait is relatively strong and the lack of the "Spiked Chin" is obvious. Manley state 2.0 with a fine crack through the left side of the C in AMERICA.
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.
