Lot 3590

1884 Liberty Nickel. NGC graded MS-66. Well struck with a hint of light gold tone. A high degree of luster distinguishes the satiny nickel gray surfaces from others of the date which are less pulsating even though in technically similar grade. Collectors familiar with the Liberty Nickel series will recognize this difference at once.

Business strike Liberty nickels appear to be one of the more undervalued areas in the coin market today. They are very scarce in an absolute sense, especially in comparison to their Proof cousins, and are also very challenging to locate in better-than-Gem grades. This is a fresh MS66 whose only imperfections are slight softness of strike as seen on one star and some minor weakness in the left ear of corn above the denomination on the reverse. Pop 15; 2 finer, 1 in 66+, 1 in 67.
Estimated Value $1,800 - 1,900.
